What is printed on this sheet

A number line running 0 to 100 in ones. A hundred and one ticks, one for every whole number from 0 to 100 inclusive, each with its numeral printed at it. Two copies to an A4 sheet, 210 mm by 297, and 204 lines drawn in all.

A hundred and one marks on one line

Every whole number in the range gets a tick and a numeral, and all of them share the width of one sheet of paper. The marks therefore stand closer together than they do on a line covering a shorter run at the same step of one. That is the price of the range, and it is the only real thing to know before printing it: this is a dense sheet, and it is dense by arithmetic rather than by choice.

Where the whole run matters more than the individual marks, there is a separate sheet that covers the same 0 to 100 in steps of ten, with eleven ticks on the line instead of a hundred and one. It is drawn as its own sheet. It is not this one with most of its numerals hidden.

Changing the range, and printing it true

The first number, the last number and the step are all set on the page, so the same line can be cut down to a shorter run or opened out to a longer one, and the tick count follows. The numerals can be dropped so that only the marks remain; the two copies to a sheet can be raised or lowered; and the line can be turned to run down the page rather than across it.

Paper, ink and the name-and-date lines work as they do everywhere on this site, and the file comes out as PDF, PNG or SVG.

Print at 100 per cent, or Actual size. A print dialogue set to Fit to page scales an A4 sheet onto Letter at 94.1 per cent, and on a sheet with a hundred and one marks on it there is no chance of seeing that by eye. Measure the bar in the foot margin instead: it is drawn 50 mm long and says so, and it comes back at about 47 mm when the sheet has been scaled.
